Beattie Pet Hospital East Hamilton is hiring a Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist (Full-time)

We seek a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our veterinarians and ensuring the well-being of our patients. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to perform laboratory tasks as needed.Responsibilities• Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures by holding animals and providing necessary support.• Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean and stocked with supplies.• Perform basic laboratory tasks, including collecting samples for testing and assisting with laboratory equipment.• Monitor the health and behavior of animals in our care, reporting any changes to the veterinary staff.• Administer medications as directed by veterinarians, including injections and oral medications.• Maintain accurate medical records for each patient, ensuring all information is up-to-date.• Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with pet owners regarding their pets' needs and treatments.• Assist in the management of inventory, including ordering supplies when necessary.Requirements• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in veterinary technology or animal care is preferred.• Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is an advantage.• Knowledge of laboratory procedures related to veterinary medicine is highly desirable.• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well within a team environment.• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.• Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately, even in stressful situations.• Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends.Job Type: Full-timePay: $18.00-$20.00 per hourExpected hours: 32 – 44 per weekAdditional pay:• Bonus payBenefits:• Company events• Dental care• Discounted or free food• Employee assistance program• Extended health care• Flexible schedule• Life insurance• Paid time off• RRSP match• Store discount• Vision care• Wellness programFlexible language requirement:• French not requiredSchedule:• Monday to Friday• Weekends as neededExperience:• Veterinary Assistant: 1 year (required)• Front desk: 1 year (required)• Customer service: 1 year (preferred)Work Location: In person
