Duties Reporting to an Inspection Manager, the position of a Supervisory Veterinarian displays qualities of professionalism and teamwork. The candidate will confidently lead an inspection team using strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with both management and team members effectively. Key activities include:
• Supervise staff, provide instruction and training, manage assigned resources and assets, and compile operational and legislative compliance reports for use by CFIA at the regional, area and national level.
• Leads and conducts ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections, clinical examinations, and epidemiological investigations to evaluate the health of animals and diagnose diseases, and verifies work completed by inspectors and veterinarians.
• Ensures public and industry compliance with the Safe Food for Canadians Act and the Health of Animals Act and the associated regulations and policies to ensure proper certification for export, import and domestic purposes.
• Reviews situations of non-compliance, initiates enforcement actions and testifies as an expert witness in legal proceedings as required.
• Implements and conducts quality assurance, risk assessment and regulatory audits to assess the compliance with acts, regulations and accreditation requirements, and is accountable for the preparation and accuracy of emergency response contingency plans.
• Reviews, certifies and endorses official and accredited veterinary certificates governing animals or meat products for import, export and domestic purposes.
• Advises and instructs stakeholders on the requirements and implementation of the Animal Health and Meat Hygiene Programs, represents the interests of the Agency in media and public fora and promotes measures taken to control diseases.
• Plans and coordinates activities of the CFIA Programs to maintain Canada’s national zoosanitary status. Work environment
