Bridge Street Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced individual for the role of Veterinary Technician Assistant. The Veterinary Technician Assistant supports the Veterinary Technician (VT/RVT) and works under the supervsion of the Veterinarian and the Veterinary Technician to ensure quality veterinary care is provided with maximum efficiency and a high degree of professionalism. This position is tailored towards an experienced Veterinary Assistant looking to elevate their technical skills and enhance their knowledge of veterinary medicine, surgery, and laboratory work. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized self-starter who is motivated to provide exemplary patient care and passionate about learning more.
Duties
The Veterinary Technician Assistant is responsible for carrying out any task as directed by the attending Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician which may include, but is not limited to, the following:
• Examination room preparation and assistance including taking and recording the weight, temperature, medical history, and presenting complaint.
• Communicate with clients and follow-up on care-plans under direction of veterinarian
• Animal handling and restraint, as necessary, with a Fear Free approach.
• Procedures related to admissions and discharge including estimates, consent forms, discharge instructions, and medication instructions.
• Clean, pack, and autoclave of all surgical instruments after use.
• Maintain proper inventory in surgery.
• Assist with taking and processing of radiographs.
• Assist with blood draws, IV placements, and other procedures.
• Assist with sample collection and processing.
• Assist with laboratory equipment including maintenance and trouble-shooting.
• Assist with peri-operative care and post-operative recovery including monitoring and report to technician and attending veterinarian as needed.
• Assist during surgeries and dental procedures.
• Provide and explain surgical estimates and provide client education.
• Book surgeries and other procedures, process referrals, collaborate with specialists.
• Follow up with patients after surgeries and treatments and follow their progress.
• Assist with maintaining appropriate levels of medical supplies.
• Other Veterinary Assistant and Veterinary Receptionist CSR duties as needed/assigned.
Skills
• A genuine love for animals and a desire to make a difference in their lives!
• Previous experience as a veterinary assistant is required
• Previous experience with technical duties associated with veterinary procedures, surgery, or laboratory skills is an asset
• Attention to detail, ability to multi-task, time-management, ability to triage/prioritize
• Strong communication skills (written/verbal) and exceptional interpersonal skills
• A pro-active and self-starter attitude
• Kind, gentle, and considerate approach to all clients and patients
• Motivation and passion to learn more and grow professionally
Bridge Street Veterinary Hospital is an AAHA-accredited, Fear-Fear Certified, and Cat-Friendly practice. The successful candidate will be trained in all asssociated protocols and supported in their education and certification.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Pay: $18.00-$21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week
